At LITTLE Yolk, when we begin working with clients who feel stuck and confused within their career - BEFORE we even start to look at anything else, we look at where they are now.
EVEN BEFORE INVESTIGATING THEIR FEELINGS OF CONFUSION AND ‘STUCKNESS’...We encourage our clients to consider their current home environment and mind blocks that they may have.
YES, THAT’S RIGHT – WE KNOW HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO ‘CLEAR THE DECKS’ IN YOUR WHOLE LIFE, so that you have SPACE TO BREATHE…AND THINK!
YOU NEED A CLEAR HEAD – OR AT LEAST AS CLEAR AS POSSIBLE, to make any important decision.
If you are surrounded by chaos and mess, you can’t even BEGIN to think clearly and carefully about what you want out of your career and your life.
Of course, we are talking PHYSICAL CLUTTER, but just as important as that (if not more so!), it is essential that we look at the MENTAL CLUTTER that’s rolling around in head!
How can you think straight and positively to consider your options and your wants and desires in life, if you are surrounded by mess and negativity?
“But I haven’t got time to declutter my life!!”
If the notion of having a big declutter of everything in your life scares the living heebee jeebees out of you. Don’t worry – MOST PEOPLE FEEL THE SAME! You haven’t got to tackle it all at once, but here are some relatively quick and easier things you can do:
PHYSICAL MESS IN YOUR HOME ENVIRONMENT:
While you are in thinking mode, make sure you create a space in your physical surroundings that you will feel safe and clutter-free from. Even if it’s a corner of your bedroom…have an area where you can sit and relax, and write and think. Make it comfortable and a pleasurable place to be.
(THEN you can build on that!).
Other things you can do that won’t take an eternity (and will make you feel so much more clear-headed:
1/ PAPERWORK, PAPERWORK – EVERYWHERE!
If you have papers and correspondence surrounding you in your home, at least put it in one place. Then you can sort it into piles. Even as basic as – keep (to file), needs action, and bin /shred.
You can worry about organising it into pretty files for another time, if necessary, but just at least have those three groups of paperwork.
2/ STOP EMAILING ME!
If you have a tendency to just scroll through your incoming emails each day, and just pick out and read / action the important ones, then GET RID OF THE REST! Be honest with yourself and RUTHLESS and ask yourself…honestly, “WILL I EVER READ THEM?” / “DO I NEED THEM?”
DELETE, DELETE, DELETE!
AND…Unsubscribe from email lists and newsletters that you have no interest in and that you rarely read.
Like with paperwork, if you haven’t the time to organise your emails into folders, at least put all the ones you want to keep in a ‘Keep’ folder. And then, DELETE, DELETE, DELETE ALL THE REST!
3/ “MY DESKTOP’S BUSIER THAN THE M6 MOTORWAY!”
Likewise with your computer / laptop files and Apps. If you have a tendency to have a choc-a-block desktop, it can feel so overwhelming.
Delete the apps you don’t use and at the very least create at least one folder to put your files in.
4/ “WHO THE HECK IS THAT?!”
If you’ve been on social media for some time, having a bit of a ‘clear out’ on there can be so cathartic.
- Unfollow groups and pages that you are no longer interested in / or that don’t bring you any enjoyment
- Ditto with ‘friend’s’ and contacts on there. Hit DELETE or ‘UNFRIEND’ on anyone who you don’t really know or have no interest in. If you can’t do that, you can always ‘HIDE’ OR ‘UNFOLLOW’. They don’t have to know (even if they would even notice!).
Doing some of this essential decluttering, and purging of negativity, can help you massively in this decision-making process.
